Pia Kuykhoven

Pia Kuykhoven is a contemporary artist working full-time from her studio in Adelaide’s southern suburbs. Trained as a landscape designer, she traces her love of gardens to her great aunt’s colourful cottage garden and to the plants she grew as a child.

After early painting lessons and a return to making during motherhood, Pia built a self-directed practice spanning acrylic painting and hand-built ceramics. Her vibrant floral still lifes and nostalgic domestic forms carry memories of home and place.

Visible brushstrokes, impressions and textures reveal how each tactile work was made. Pia builds and prunes layers intuitively, much like tending a garden, creating pieces she hopes will become future heirlooms.
