Helen Evans
Botanical painting
Helen Evans paints flowers she grows herself, looking closely at their layers, structure and colour. Her botanical paintings invite viewers to fall into each image and share her awe at the natural world.
Botanicals have always been part of Helen Evans’ practice. Flowers and plants connect her to a family history of gardens and gardening, and to her parents and grandparents. She grows the flowers she wants to draw and paint, keeping a living source of inspiration close at hand. After a recent move, planting a new garden was one of her first jobs.
Through painting, Helen looks closely at flowers—their layers, structures, colour and remarkable complexity. She wants viewers to fall into each image, immersed in the flowers, and to share the awe and wonder she finds in nature.
